Add a picture to a folder

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Microsoft Windows XP usually shows icons for folders like My Music and My Pictures. If a folder contains pictures, Windows XP displays random thumbnails from within the folder. To replace these icons with custom pictures to make browsing your files more fun.

1. In Windows Explorer, right-click the folder you want to add a picture to, and then click Properties.

2. In the Properties dialog box, click the Customize tab. If there is no Customize tab, you cannot add a picture to that folder. You can add pictures to other folders, however.

3. On the Customize tab, click Choose Picture.

4. In the Browse dialog box, click the picture you want to use, and then click Open.

5. Click OK

When you view the folder using Thumbnails view, Windows displays a thumbnail of the picture you selected

Note: Your picture is visible only when you're browsing folders with the Thumbnails View. To access the Thumbnails view, click Thumbnails on the View menu.

IT and the Management

Saturday, July 11, 2009

A man in a hot air balloon realised he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am.

The woman below replied, "You're in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude."

"You must be in IT," said the balloonist.

"I am," replied the woman, "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I'm still lost.

Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip."

The woman below responded, "You must be in Management."

"I am", replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well," said the woman, "you don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise, which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my f******g fault."

- If you feel one of these belongs to you, please let me know we will either remove the material or provide a link at your request.

HOW YOU CAN CHANGE THE RECYCLE BIN’S NAME?

Monday, July 6, 2009

I'm a great believer that any tool that enhances communication has profound effects in terms of how people can learn from each other, and how they can achieve the kind of freedoms that they're interested in.
- Bill Gates

You can change the name of Recycle Bin of your system if you wish. It is very
easy and interesting but it requires some changes in windows registry.

1. First click on START button, click on RUN

2. Type regedit.exe and press enter, regedit editor screen will pop-up

3. In REGEDIT editor you will open HKEY_CLASSESS_ROOT folder. In this folder open the CLSID folder then open the {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} folder then ShellFolder folder at last.

4. Change the data value from "40 01 00 20" to "70 01 00 20".

Computer Romance

Friday, July 3, 2009

A little boy goes to his father and asks 'Daddy, how was I born?' The father answers, 'Well, son, I guess one day you will need to find out anyway!

Your Mom and I first got together in a chat room on Yahoo. Then I set up a date via e-mail with your Mom and we met at a cyber-cafe. We sneaked into a secluded room, where your mother agreed to a download from my hard drive.

As soon as I was ready to upload, we discovered that neither one of us had used a firewall, and since it was too late to hit the delete button, nine months later a little Pop-Up appeared that said:

YOU GOT MALE!

Comment: I've received this email from almost all my friends. This email has
been roaming around the WWW and i find it cute and cool to share with my
readers. To whoever made this one up! 2 thumbs up for you!

How to create a shutdown icon on desktop

Thursday, July 2, 2009

Right click on your desktop and select new > shortcut;

In dialog box type “shutdown –s”, click next to continue;

Type a name for shortcut and click finish.

Additional parameters:

shutdown [{-l|-s|-r|-a}] [-f] [-m [\\ComputerName]]

-l >> Logs off the current user

-s >> Shuts down the local computer

-r >> Reboots after shutdown

-a >> Aborts shutdown. Ignores other parameters, except -l and Computer Name

-f >> Forces running applications to close.

-m [\\ComputerName] >> computer name

Note: This trick might not be new to extreme XP users, but for the newbies, you'll enjoy it.
